Tom Dwan may have amassed losses totaling a staggering $7 million at one point, but these days he’s proving that true poker professionals can’t go bust. From the beginning of the month, durrrr has recovered a massive $2.66 million, having gone down the stakes and playing poker like never before. That leaves him with $4.17 million in losses for a year which is still proving to be a huge financial disaster for the New Jersey Wonderkid.
Dwan had been struggling all through 2009, but the true cave-in came when Isildur1, the mysterious Swedish player who appeared from nowhere, took him for $3 million over a period covering about 3 days. That disaster appeared to have depleted Dwan’s already beleaguered bankroll and it looked like the nosebleed stakes days were over for the freshly enrolled
Full Tilt Poker Pro. Dwan then did something few high stakes professionals would be capable of: he descended the stakes, finding no shame in taking on $50/$100
NL Holdem opposition. Sure enough, his humility began to pay dividends almost instantly. On Monday night alone, Dwan took more than $700k from various players, but mainly from Ilari Sahamies, whom he trounced thoroughly in a heads-up $500/$1,000 PLO match.
Meanwhile, over at
Ultimate Bet, a player has turned a $11 bankroll into a $800k one, igniting rumors of another Isildur1 like character hitting the nosebleed stakes soon. Nobody knows exactly who this guy is either, but it known that he’s a 20 year old Canadian student who had deposited and busted out several times at Ultimate Bet before.
Known only by his online nickname “XBLINK”, the Canadian provided a detailed log of his antics at twoplustwo. He had been felted several times before, blowing a $500 bankroll through every bust. This time around, he found himself down to his last $11, which he invested in a tournament. He proceeded to win that poker tournament and he took the $750 prize. He took that money to low stakes Omaha and worked it up to $4,000. The rest was history. He ended up with around $800k on the 6th day of his run, but he’s apparently dropped around $200k since then.
