UKIPT Galway Main Event – Day 2 Report

The UKIPT’s Galway Poker festival, sponsored by Full Tilt Poker roared on, on Saturday, even as bad news hit the wire: the €10k Super High Roller was cancelled, quite possibly because of the rather small number of likely participants to pony up that sort of money.
282 players returned to the tables at the beginning of the second day of action and by the time the day was called, only 51 were left standing. Online qualifier Tim Michels finished Day 2 with the largest stack: the PokerStars qualifier had 835k chips bagged.
Like many of the previous chip leaders, Michels picked up most of his field-leading stack late in the day, thanks to a single massive pot he took off Aidan Connelly. Connelly was the one who kicked off the hostilities on a flop of 4c,6c,5h, and Michels raised him getting him all-in. Connelly thought about it for a while, but eventually decided to put his tournament life onto the line. It turned out he did in fact have the lead with pocket 10s against Michels’ 8d,6d. The turn however filled Michels’ straight draw and the 7s on the river sealed the deal in his favor for good.

PokerStars pro Jake Cody was among the starters at the beginning of the day, together with Day 1A and Day 1B chip leaders Alan Gold and Damian Porebski. While the two chip leaders managed to make it to Day 3, Cody wasn’t that fortunate: he bit the dust, together with Full Tilt’s Danielle Andersen. The UK’s Max Silver played too, and he too was among those who advanced. He was joined by Dale Phillip as scores of other notables fell by the side.
John Magill was eliminated out of the money as well, together with Liam Flood, John Kalmar and Full Tilt’s Hana Soljan.
Play at Full Tilt Poker and rub shoulders with some of the best online cash game players in the world.
