UKIPT London Main Event – Robbie Bull Wins

Sunday was definitely a busy day for poker in London. The EPT got going and in fact its first official event, the £50k Super High Roller, went into the books as Germany’s Martin Finger picked up the title. Vanessa Selbst and Phil Hellmuth had field days on Sunday as well, as they both won UKIPT events. With all the buzz surrounding the “name” players’ success, the Main Event of the UKIPT – itself part of the Season 10 EPT London celebrations – kind of flew in under the radar, not that its winner would mind. After all, Robbie Bull picked up a handsome £113.4k for his win, after he struck a heads-up deal with runner-up Ian Simpson. Simpson’s share of the loot was £106.8k. No one else finished within 6-figures.

The first victim of the final table was Paul Zimbler, who had a truly bad day indeed, not just at the green felt but in general: he arrived late to the venue after he got stuck in traffic, and that may have taken an emotional toll on him. He picked up a more than decent Ah, Kh and he pushed all-in, being called by Karl Mahrenholz who had an inferior Qc, Jc.
Zimbler was followed out the door by Patryk Slusarek, whose 7th place was worth £19.2k.
Mahrenholz, the man behind the first elimination of the final table, was next. He was followed in turn by Dario Sammartino from Italy, who picked up £35.3k. Lasse Frost’s elimination in 3rd place left three Brits doing battle for the title. The first one to go was Jack Salter, who picked up £59.1k and set up the heads-up stage of the event. The two remaining players then made a deal, dividing the remaining money and leaving £10k to play for. Bull got the shorter end of the deal, but he won so he finished with the bigger prize.
