Unibet Poker Open London - Day 1A Report

The first day 1 flight of the Unibet Poker London Open went into the books today, with some 186 players putting up the £875 buy-in. The turn-out was indeed quite impressive and so was the way the prize-pool began shaping up. The way the herd was thinned out over the course of Day 1A action was equally impressive: of the 186 players only 51 made it through the hurdle, which means that fewer than 1 in 3 advanced. While there were some name players in the field, the forgiving buy-in amount allowed scores of less-known players to take part as well. At the end of the day, the Czech Republic's Jan Riha finished with the largest stack: he had 298.8k chips bagged. Riha had put together a nice run before the dinner-break, and by then he already had a massive lead. He never relented and although he took a few smaller hits, he eventually finished with almost 300k chips.

Second in chips at the end of day was Geir Reka Tollerud of Norway, who had some 263.5k chips bagged. France's Erik le Goff rounded out the top 3, with 242.5k chips. An interesting bit of Day 1A trivia was the fact that identical Dutch twins Erik Koops and Alexander Koops both managed to advance on healthy stacks of 192.6k and 128k chips respectively.
From among the "name" players, France's Antoine Saout made the cut, although his stack was much smaller than any of the above mentioned ones. Unibet Poker sponsored a number of eSports starts in the event, unfortunately, none of these players made it past the Day 1A hurdle.
