Unibet Poker's Antwerp Open Main Event Kicks Off

The €1.1k Main Event of the
Unibet Poker Open's Antwerp Main Event saw its first of two day 1 flights go into the books the other day. Day 1A consisted of 10 60-minute levels, at the end of which Niko Koop emerged with the chip lead. Koop had some 385k chips bagged. Maksym Lavrov finished second, with 191k chips to his name. Morgan Wald finished 3rd, with 173.6 chips, followed by Mihai Ani Leon in 4th place, with 168kchips.
Koop's day didn't exactly start out well: he won some and lost some, before getting lucky and picking up a massive pot from a 3-way confrontation, his A,J getting the better of Rob van de Riet's pocket Ks. He later moved in and finished van de Riet off for good. Still later, he got all-in with A,K against Stefan Mattsson's A,Q, bouncing the latter and adding a massive chunk of chips to his stack.

While the top finishers obviously thrived, there were a number of "name" competitors involved in the action who bit the dust relatively early. Christophe and Matthias de Meulder were among these players, as was
Unibet's own Charlotte van Brabander, and Jochum Weenink.
Other notables were luckier though and made it through the Day 1A hurdle: Matthias de Clercq, Bert Geens and Pieter de Korver all made the cut. albeit de Korver ended up with a relatively short stack of 72.9k chips. Day 1B of the tournament gets going on Friday, while the second day - the penultimate of the event - is scheduled for Saturday, kicking off at 12:00 local time.
