USA Championship of Online Poker - John Hayes wins Main Event

The PokerStars sponsored United States championship of online poker rolled to a conclusion on Tuesday, as the Main Event ended with John Hayes's victory. Hayes pocketed a first-place prize of $140,743, having survived a starting field of 1,650 registrants.
The final table of the poker tournament saw quite a few name players battle it out. Eventually, John Riley, Steve Gross and Matt Keikoan were all sent to the rail before the finish line was reached. Riley finished in second, Gross ended up in fifth and Keikoan busted out in 7th place.

The Main Event was only the conclusion of the series which consisted of 11 separate poker tournaments. David Paredes turned in the most impressive performance of the series. He won two titles, the first one in the $215 no limit Holdem heads-up event, pocketing a prize of $25,000. His second title came in the $320 pot limit Omaha event, in which he also collected a $32,000 reward.
Adam Sherman did pretty well in the series too. He final tabled two events, finishing in 2nd place in the Omaha event which Parades won.

The interesting and rather surprising fact about the series was that an astonishing number of nine events failed to cover their guarantees. The mishap cost PokerStars a combined $764,000, quite a cold shower to an online poker operation which usually covers each and every one of its large-scale guarantees.
The events that did manage to cover the guarantee, only did so by a combined margin of $98,850, so overall, while it was rather successful with the public, the series turned out to be quite a letdown for PokerStars.
The biggest single prize won outside of the main event was a $127,000 haul by Christina Lindley, in event number four, the $320 No Limit Holdem event.
