Viktor Blom and PokerStars Part Ways

It is now official: one of the most hyped online poker players, Viktor Blom, also known by the online moniker ‘Isildur1’ is no longer a member of Team PokerStars Pro. Back in 2011, when he became a member of the PokerStars fold, Blom was indeed a hot commodity. After his introduction during the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, the deal was hailed as a massive victory for PokerStars, given the caliber and the possible global reach of the player they had just secured. Since then – although some may argue otherwise – a lot of the marketing value which was thought to have been in the deal has faded. Whatever the reason behind the split was, the parties seem to have parted ways on good terms.

PokerStars representative Eric Hollreiser said that Blom was indeed a player who has achieved more than anyone else extremely early in his career. Hollreiser also said that PokerStars wished Blom well in his future endeavors and that the company would be watching him closely. On his part, Blom said he had enjoyed his time as a PokerStars pro and that he wished the company nothing but the best. Regarding his future plans, he said he intended to fully focus on playing poker.

Before he became a PokerStars pro, Blom had taken the high stakes online poker world by storm. He hit the highest possible stakes at Full Tilt Poker and he took massive amounts of money from players like Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan. When he lost he also lost big. Many will no doubt remember that period as the golden age of high stakes online poker. Indeed, several records set back then regarding pot sizes and daily/weekly profits are still standing today.
The most appealing thing about Isildur1 was that no one knew for certain who he was. He was a true champion of the people, a nobody who took on the cream of the crop and got away with it.
