It is now official: Isildur1 is indeed 20-year old Swedish poker pro Victor Blom. Rumors have long circulated in the poker world about Isildur1’s true identity and Blom was indeed one of the top suspects. All sorts of other rumors took off, but Blom never really ceased to be the top ‘candidate’.
The scenario plays into the trend of rumors proving to be more than well-founded in the poker world.
Isildur1 first burst onto the online poker scene in 2009, when he ascended the limits at
Full Tilt Poker’s NL Holdem cash tables at lightning speed to take the poker elite by surprise and to send a few of its notorious representatives gasping for air down the limits. PLO combined with some crafty collusion from the Cardrunners team proved to be his undoing though.
As previously announced, the revealing of Isildur1’s true identity happened during Day 1A of the
PokerStars Caribbean Adventure’s Main Event. A separate table was set up for two players at which Isildur1 would match skills with another contender. That contender emerged to be none other than PokerStars’ own Bertrand “ElKy” Grospellier. A few moments later, Isildur1 alias Victor Blom emerged from behind a black curtain to take his seat, thus ending one of the biggest and longest lasting mysteries in online poker.
When asked what doing away with his trademark aura of mystery meant to him, Isildur1 shrugged it off: he said most people already knew who he was before the official announcement was made so it wasn’t that big a deal.
Never quite revered for his modesty, Blom said that being the best online heads-up
NL Holdem player in the world, he had plenty to offer to the site that hired him.
When asked about his future plans, he said that as a PokerStars representative, he would obviously play in a bunch of live events and that his live poker focus would be on winning an EPT event in 2011.
