Weekend online poker action

The first Sunday of the year is gone, and some players have already set off in the New Year on the right foot. The big flagship tournaments at PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and the other noteworthy online poker sites went down undisturbed by the New Year cool-down, generating the usually high player fields and covering their guarantees easily.
PokerStars’ $1.5 million GTD attracted a massive field of 8,900 registrants, who combined for a prize-pool of $1,780,000, exceeding the guarantee by $280k. The $200+$15 buy-in is apparently a small enough one to remain attractive, especially in light of the fabulous prizes it offers access to.

Player “uyra99” proved to be the lucky one this Sunday, taking home the full winner’s share as no deals were struck at the online poker tables this time around. The lion’s share of the more than generous prize-pool was a $254,184 chunk. Second place latouche83 won $186,900 and third place Copernic67 took home $132,521. 3rd place was the last 6-figure position. Notable finishes were those of Steve Burkholder (who finished 60th) and Joe Udine (who ended up in 93rd).

The Sunday Warm-Up attracted a much smaller field, but the guarantee was covered with ease there too. A total prize-pool of $961,800 was generated, well above the $750,000 mark.
Chris1804 and looshle finished with 6-figure prizes. No deals were struck here either. Chris1804 walked away with $150, 456 and looshle took home $112,049. Matt Kay finished in 17th place in this event, for a prize of $2,837.

The Sunday 500’s $500+$30 buy-in deterred many from attending. Only 959 players registered, and they failed to cover the $500,000 guarantee, which was eventually taken care of by PokerStars. This poker tournament ended without a deal among the top ranking players too. PhounderAA walked away with the top prize of $87,400.

Full Tilt Poker
’s $400,000 Sunday Brawl managed to cover the guarantee and it saw a deal too, among the top 4 finishers. Player “NudelTofu” walked away with the $81,859 top prize at the end of it all.

The $750,000 Guaranteed drew a field of 4,271 participants, who combined for a $854, 200 prize-pool. The winner, metfan4590 won $150,843. Second place finisher medijun took home $91,313. The Sunday Mulligan covered the guarantee nicely too, awarding a $53,010 top prize to winner iceontheriver.
