WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic – Day 2 Report

The second day of the WPT’s Five Diamond World Poker Classic finally set the total number of participants to 503. There was a re-entry option valid for day 2 too, and sure enough, plenty of players chose to take advantage of it. At the end of the day, 175 players were left standing. The player with the largest stack was Michael Mizrachi, the veteran of many a high stakes WPT, WSOP and EPT battle. Mizrachi finished the day with a stack of 272.6k chips. He was followed by Frank Rusnak, who bagged 255.9k chips at the end of the day.
Chino Rheem made the top 10 too: he finished 6th, with 209k chips to his name. He was followed by Joseph Elpayaa and Vanessa Selbst.

Mizrachi’s key to success proved to be his relentless aggression again. He took down pots left and right, some of them contested, others stuffed and released his way in the end. One such pot was the one he played against Roland Israelashvili. Mizrachi put chips into the pot on every street and Israelashvili called him all the way to the river, when a 100k bet – which would’ve put him all-in – forced him to fold it.
Given the pro-heavy nature of the poker tournament, it didn’t come as a surprise that many “name” players busted out. Marvin Rettenmaier was one of these players. Tommy Vedes and PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu failed to advance as well.

Negreanu’s demise came during level 10, when he caught a third J for his pocket pair on the flop. Unfortunately for him, the flop fell all spades and it gave an opponent of his a K-high flush. He failed to make a boat and he was done.
Ashton Griffin and Maria Ho fell too.
