WPT Grand Prix de Paris – Day 3 report

Day 3 of the WPT’s Grand Prix de Paris event turned out to be a very short one. The start of the day field of 48 whittled down to 25 before the action was called. The highlight of the day was the bursting of the money bubble, a turning point in the
poker tournament, preceded by lengthy hand to hand play. 27 players made the money, of whom only two found the way to the rail on day 3.
Jimmy Ostennson was the player who finished the day with the most chips, having amassed a stack of 719,000.
Ostennson made the most of the short day by relieving Aussie Millions winner Tyron Krost, of a large chunk of chips. On a board of Jh, 8h,6h,10d,5d Ostennson shoved all in for about 170k chips. Tyron Krost thought about it for a while, then he made the call. Unfortunately for him, Ostensson had Ah, Kh for the nut flush, which was well enough to rake him the pot. Krost mucked his hand then said he had had pocket Js for the flopped set. If he was indeed frank about it, the flop had generated a perfect hand from which there was no getting away for him.
Another player who had an excellent Day 3 run was Theo Jorgensen. Jorgensen took full advantage of the lull brought about by the money bubble and he kept adding to his stack, eventually becoming responsible for the bursting of the bubble too, by eliminating Stuart Rutter.
Jorgensen had been abusing Rutter for a while before the decisive hand came about. He shoved all-in on Ac, 5c before the flop, and Rutter, who had been waiting for a decent hand to put Jorgensen in his place, made the call with his pocket 9s. He didn’t seem confident at all though as he got up from the table before the flop fell. The Qc,Kc,6c confirmed his worst fears, and the J and 7 on the turn and river failed to help him out.
PokerStars’ Arnaud Mattern had a relatively good day too and he finished with a healthy stack. One of the day 1 chip leaders, Fabrice Tuil, finished near the top of the provisional leader board as well.
Andrew Teng and Steven von Zadelhoff would move on to Day 4 too.
