WPT Jacksonville Fall Poker Scramble – Day 1B Report

The second day 1 flight of the WPT’s Fall Poker Scramble in Jacksonville saw 263 players cough up the $3.5k buy-in. This day’s yield brought the total number of participants to 477, and set the final size of the prize-pool to $1,526,400. The $500k initial guarantee was thus simply blown to smithereens. The eventual winner will end up taking home $402,970, almost as much as the initial guarantee.
There were several “name” players taking part in the Day 1B hostilities and none of them did better than Florida’s own John Racener, who finished the day with the largest stack.
Racener managed to pick up pocket rockets on his very first hand and he promptly doubled up with them, against another player’s A,Ko. The
WSOP Main Event runner-up never looked back from that point on, adding to his stack successfully through the day.
Racener wasn’t the only “name” pro to build a healthy stack on Day 1B though:
PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu achieved the same feat, together with Brian Hastings, Matt Waxman and Jonathan Little.
Negreanu finished the day with 117k chips to his name, but it turned out to be a pretty costly affair for him. During the two day 1 flights, he found himself sent to the rail and buying back in several times, so in the end, he put up a total of $14k.
Even on Day 1B, he had had a pretty tough time before sparking a nice rally late in the day. The hand which set things in motion for him saw a board of Qh,10d,2s,As. Negreanu fired out a bet and a player in the SB tagged along. The 9h fell on the river and the SB eventually shoved all-in. Negreanu made the call, tabling K,Jo for the Broadway Straight and the win.
