The second day of the WPT’s LA Poker Classic saw the final total on the starting field set to 517 players. Given that the buy-in was a $10k one, the resulting prize-pool almost reached the $5 million mark. With the money bubble set for 63rd place, it is guaranteed that the eventual winner will take home a prize slightly bigger than $1 million.
A total of 5 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which, Peter Neff emerged with the largest stack. He finished with 284.7k chips. He was followed by Ryan Eriquezzo, who amassed 265k chips to clinch second spot.
As it’s often the case, Neff assumed the position of the leader during the very last level of the day. He picked up a huge pot from Josh Hale, sending the latter to the rail through it. The chips went into the middle before the flop, as Neff had an Ah, Kh against Hale’s A,Qo. The flop gave Neff a 4-card flush and the turn filled his draw with a Jh. The Qc on the river was quite irrelevant as Hale headed to the rail and Neff to the top of the pops.
Eriquezzo got going during the last level of the
poker tournament too. He locked horns with Naoya Kihara from the big blind, holding pocket Ks against the latter’s Kc,10c. The money went all-in on the turn, and it became obvious that Kihara was banking on a 4-card flush he had made. The Jh on the river dashed his hopes though and Eriquezzo chipped up nicely.
PokerStars pro Bertrand Grospellier was involved in the action too, but he was bounced on Day 2. He was followed to the rail by Bryn Kenney, David Sands and Phil Hellmuth.
