WPT Legends of Poker – Day 1B Report

Day 1B of the WPT’s Legends of Poker Main Event is in the books, and the picture regarding the overall prize-pool and number of participants has become crystal-clear. The record of the most popular WPT event ever wasn’t broken. Day 1B saw 431 players belly up to the tables of the Bicycle Casino, taking the total number of buy-ins to 757. That number is rather deceitful though, as players who had busted out on Day 1A were allowed to re-buy on Day1B. The organizers have done the math and it turned out that of the 181 players who had found the rail on Day 1A, 116 had re-entered, thus the total number of unique participants was a mere 641. The prize-pool grew to $2,570,015, of which the winner’s share would be $758k.

JC Tran was the one who finished the day with the largest stack. He arrived fashionably late, but he had no trouble picking up the pace. The PokerStars player had a few lucky hands too which contributed to his stack quite immensely. One such hand saw him flop a flush when the board fell 8,3,2 all heart, to go with his Kh, 5h. To make things even better, an opponent check-raised him all-in. Making the call was a no brainer of course. It turned out the opponent had 10h, 4h for the lower flush.
By the end of the day, Tran’s stack had grown to 265k chips.

David “Chino” Rheem, a player who has been on fire lately, had a much shorter tournament. He exited during level 3 when he attempted a bluff and found someone who decided to keep him honest.
Barry Greenstein was also among those who failed to make it to day 2.
Owen Crowe, another player who had busted on Day 1A and returned for another go, had an excellent day. Of those who returned after a failed Day 1A, Tony Dunst, Jennifer Tilly and Kathy Liebert were eliminated again.
