WPT Legends of Poker - Day 3 Report

The third day of the WPT Legends of Poker stop is in the books and the final 21 has been set. Coming into the third day of action, Ken Aldridge possessed the largest stack. He did well through the day, and even though he lost the lead, he finished with a healthy stack again, big enough to land him in the top 10 for day 4.
Jeff Vertes was the one who clinched the chip lead. He amassed 2.7 million chips, to secure an 800k+ lead over the second place man. James Carroll finished second, with a stack of 1.9 million chips.

99 players returned to the tables at the beginning of the day. The money bubble was set for 81st place, so a few unlucky guys would still have to walk to the rail with nothing to show for their efforts. Joe Ressler was the one who bit the dust in 82nd place, thus becoming the bubble boy of the event. Ressler got his chips into the middle holding As,Ks against Brent Hanks’ Ad,Qd. Hanks proceeded to hit a flush to cripple Ressler for good. Ressler was eliminated on the very next hand by Hanks.

Jeff Madsen, Hafiz Khan and Tom Braband also bit the dust. Once the money bubble burst, the procession to the rail continued. PokerStars’ Greg Mueller was bounced in 78th place, picking up $7k for his efforts. Owen Crowe followed him to the rail in 77th. Dan O’Brien busted in 69th place. Jamie Gold was eliminated in 67th place. Dwyte Pilgrim, the winner of the biggest ever WPT event, faded away too in 33rd place, collecting a little over $10k for his time. Pilgrim’s last hand saw him push all-in before the flop on an A,Jo against James Carroll’s A,Ko. The board fell Q,10,10,J,8 and Carroll made a Broadway straight to send Pilgrim packing.
The 21 players who survived the day are all guaranteed a $14k+ payout. First place is worth $758k.
