The
PartyPoker sponsored Main Event of the WPT’s Prague stop saw 179 players belly up to its tables, taking the total size of the starting field to 294. At the end of day 1B, 100 players remained in contention. The player who clinched the chip lead was Mikhail Mazunin, who ended up with a stack of 203.6k chips, enough to allow him to overtake Day 1A’s leader, Pasi Heinanen, and to clinch the overall lead of the poker tournament.
Mazunin’s Day 1B run was a lot like that of Heinanen a day earlier: he shot to the top during the final stages of the day, when he took down a massive pot from Juus Nevanlinna. In the said hand, the chips went into the middle on a board of 10h,4s,2h,3h. Nevanlinna had pocket Js, but Mazunin had a 5h, 7h for the flush. Nothing changed on the river and Nevanlinna was eliminated, while Mazunin jumped into the lead.
There were several notables playing on Day 1B too. Many of them, like Kevin MacPhee, Ilan Boujenah and Liv Boeree never made it to the end of the day.
PokerStars’ French pro Bertrand Grospellier was sent to the rail as well. Grospellier got his last chips into the middle on a pair of 5s and he got called by Erik Olofsson, whose pocket Js clearly dominated the Frenchman’s hand. No help came on the board for him and he was done for the day. Boeree was bounced by Tibor Nagygyorgy, whose A,Qo made short work of her A,6o.
Other notables who were eliminated on Day 1B were Matt Waxman and Olivier Busquet. Other “name” competitors did well: Brian Lemke for instance finished 3rd, with a stack of 155.4k chips.
Elio Fox finished 8th with 123.2k chips.
