WSOP 2010 day 39 – Main Event kicks off

The WSOP’s Big Dance is finally afoot, and familiar as well as less known faces have once again appeared around the tables of the Rio, all set to at least grab a price of the last
2010 WSOP prize-pool, or maybe even the gold bracelet itself, THE most prestigious trophy of the Series.
1,125 players showed up for day 1A of the Main Event, continuing the trend of relatively low player presence on the first of the day 1 flights. Of this starting field, 819 players survived, with Corwin Cole having clinched the chip leader’s spot.
Cole had amassed 228,200 chips. Dwyen Ringbauer finished in third place, following a late rally, during which he took down a huge pot against Kevin McGowan and Tyler Smith. The hand in question featured a flop of 3,5,7 rainbow. McGowan got out of the way before the turn, and the two remaining players continued to escalate the hostilities after the 2s. The 6h on the river prompted checks by both players. Ringbauer then proceeded to show down pocket Ks for the win.
Michael Mizrachi, the unlikely hero of the early days of the 2010 Series, resurfaced in the Main Event. He finished in 4th place, thanks to a large pot he collected off Mario Doria just before the dinner break.
Mizrachi wasn’t the only “name” player to make it past the day 1A hurdle though.
PokerStars’ Chris Moneymaker managed to amass a nice stack as well and so did Barry Schulman.
Greg Raymer will certainly not get the chance to climb to the top of the Main Event ladder again: he was eliminated on Day 1A, together with Mike Caro, Victor Ramdin and Isaac Haxton.
The Main Event was not the only thing going down on day 39 though. Two bracelets were awarded too, one in the $1,000 NL Holdem event (event #54), in which Marcel Vonk emerged with the goods.
The other event was the $2,500
NL Holdem one, in which Tomer Berda earned his colors after he bested Vladimir Kochelaevskiy heads-up.
