WSOP 2010 Main Event – Day 8: Mizrachi makes November Nine

The final summer day of the 2010 WSOP is in the books and the November Nine has finally been set. The last day of action was quite a bit different than the ones leading up to it. While on previous days, the action often bordered on recklessness, there was none of that on day 8. All people involved wanted to make the November Nine, unfortunately, only 9 of them attained that objective and it took them no less than 18 hours. PokerStars’ Johnny Lodden was the first victim of the day. He trusted his tournament life to a coin-flip and unfortunately for him, the flip went the other way.
His teammate, William Thorson followed him to the rail soon.

Michiel Sijpkens was the one who headed to the rail after the first break. His elimination set the stage for two-table action. Scott Clements, another of the “name” pros still present at the tables, busted in 18th place after he made the mistake of staking his tournament life on an A,Q he’d picked up. Matthew Jarvis looked him up with A,K and the field became smaller yet again.

The final elimination of the poker tournament was an especially hard fought-for one. Brandon Steven picked up an A,K and decided to make his move on it. Matthew Jarvis had pocket Qs though and the race was on. The board didn’t help either player involved, and thus Jarvis’ already made hand triumphed, turning Steven into the November Nine bubble boy.

Joseph Cheong, the start of the day chip leader had no problems hanging on, but the real story of the day was that of Michael Mizrachi who made the cut, albeit on a rather short-ish stack.
