WSOP 2011 – Day 12 Wrap-Up

Full Tilt Poker’s John Juanda walked away with his 5th WSOP bracelet on Day 12 of the 2011 WSOP, and Brian Rast earned his stripes in the $1,500 PLHE event. There was plenty of action which – for the time being – did not result in bracelets being awarded.
Event #17, the $1,500 HORSE event, saw 185 players return to the tables on day 2 of the tournament. The money bubble was reached on day 2, with Antoine Amourette becoming the last one to go home empty-handed.
Eli Elezra was the one responsible for the elimination of the bubble boy. He held a pair of Js during a stud round against Amourette’s open-ended straight draw. Amourette failed to improve and the field celebrated the bursting of the money bubble.
Given the pro-heavy nature of the field, there were several “name” players among the survivors who made the money: Todd Brunson, Max Pescatori, Allen Bari and David Chiu were all there.

Event #18, the first of a projected series of $1,500 NL Holdem events, saw a record-breaking field of 3,157 players. At the end of day 1, the field had whittled down to 490 players. Kenny Nguyen had the largest stack of chips, leading the survivors into day 2.
Day 2 will see the money bubble burst: the first paying position is set for 324th place. The organizers would also love to see the final table reached.

Event #19, the $2,500 Limit Holdem 6-Handed event, kicked off on Day 12 as well. A total of 354 players registered for the event. PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu, Bill Chen, Phil Laak and Tom Dwan were all among the registrants.
Because of the short-handed structure of the tournament, the eliminations came hard and fast on day 1. Only 130 players made it past the day 1 hurdle. Shannon Shorr finished in the chip lead. Greg Mueller, David Benyamine, David Chiu and Daniel Alaei all survived as well, on handsome stacks no less.
