WSOP 2011 – Day 19 Wrap-Up

Two bracelets were scheduled to be awarded on Day 19 of the
2011 WSOP, but only one of them found its way to an owner: the one given to the winner of the $1,500 NL Holdem Event, Andy Frankenberger.
The other event that was supposed to play down to the bracelet was the $2,500 10-Game Mix one. The plan appeared to be a reasonable one since only 19 players returned to action on what should’ve been the last day of the event. The final table was reached in six levels, and despite the swingy nature of the action, start of the day chip leader Shaun Deem made the final table still in possession of the biggest stack. His lead was so great in fact that he had more than twice as many chips as second place man Brian Haveson.
The final table proved to be a harsh environment for Shaun Deeb though. He lost several big pots, and he was eventually bounced in 4th place. Travis Pearson was the one responsible for his elimination.
Deeb’s demise was the last move of the day. 10 levels had been completed, so the action was called.
529 players bellied up to the tables on day 2 of the $1k Seniors’ NL Holdem Championship event. The money bubble was set for 396th place, and it was indeed handily reached. Jim McManus made the money, together with Shirley Williams and Paul Magriel.
At the end of the day, 37 players remained. Craig Koch will lead the survivors into Day 3.
The $3k PLO Event saw 136 players return to play down to the money bubble. Tristan Clemencon’s elimination saw the first objective of the day fulfilled.
When the day was called, 26 players were left in contention.
PokerStars’ Sam Stein had built up a stack of 843k chips to clinch the provisional lead.
Two events kicked off on day 19: another $1,500 NL Holdem one, which drew yet another record-breaking field, and the $10k Stud 8 or Better World Championship event, which saw 168 players belly up to the tables. John Racener finished day 1 of this event with the chip lead.
