The second day of the
WSOP APAC’s Main Event drew the bottom line on the number of participants and the prize-pool. A total of 405 buy-ins were registered, which created a prize-pool of AUD$3.84 million. 40 places will be paid and the winner will take home a little more than AUD$1 million.
The player who finished the day with the largest stack was Winfred Yu. He accumulated 432.7k chips.
PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu started the day among the large stacks and he managed to preserve his large-stack status: he finished 4th, with 338.1k chips to his name. Others who did well were George Tsatsis (second with 365.8k chips) and Yasar Guedin (3rd with 350.3k).
Phil Ivey started the day among the leaders as well, but unlike his friend Negreanu, he failed to follow up his superb Day 1 performance properly. Sitting at the feature table, he failed to get anything going while bleeding chips left and right. First, he tried to knock out a short-stack, but ended up doubling him up instead. Eventually, he was forced to commit. He put the last of his chips into harm’s way on an A,Qo and was unlucky enough to run straight into an opponent’s pocket Ks. The board was all bricks and he hit the rail.
He was joined by Greg Merson, Joe Hachem, Sam Trickett, Dan Kelly, Chad Brown and Phil Hellmuth.
While the “name” competitors were piling up on the sidelines, Yu, the eventual chip leader, was having a field-day. He took down one of the biggest pots of the event thus far, from Stevan Chew. After a raising war, Yu hit a K-high heart flush on the turn. Chew simply mucked his hand without showing.
Negreanu started off at a tough table, but it was soon broken up and he was able to get something going shortly after.
