WSOP Main event – Day 1b

As expected, day 1b of the 2010 WSOP Big Dance managed to attract more players than day 1a. A total of 1,489 protagonists bellied up to the tables of the Rio for the second day 1 flight of the biggest and most anticipated event of the Series. When the dust settled at the end of the day, only 500 players were still standing. James Danielson was the one who managed to clinch the chip lead. He amassed more then 200k chips, which gave him the overall chip lead of the poker tournament.
Filippo Candio finished in second place for the day. Robert Miller and Jason DeWitt ended up in 3rd and 4th respectively.

DeWitt found some excellent traction during the later stages of the day, when he took down a giant pot in a 3-way hand. The action was kicked off by Nick Mitchell, with a preflop move. DeWitt re-raised and Jared Pacifici bumped things up another notch. Sensing that he had someone to tangle with, DeWitt answered with yet another re-raise which got Mitchell out of the pot. Already having committed a significant percentage of his bankroll, Pacifici thought about it for a while and then made the call. The flop fell K,2,2 and failed to generate any additional action. The Jc on the turn prompted another round of checking. The 4c on the river was followed by more betting though. DeWitt fired out yet another bet and Pacifici, who obviously failed to hit anything, just folded, not doing the eager railbirds the favor of showing his cards.
Many of the name pros survived day 1b of the poker tournament, among them Johnny Lodden, Gavin Griffin and James Dempsey. Phil Galfond and Alexander Kostritsyn will be back on day 2 as well.

Jennifer Tilly and Pokerstars’ Arnaud Mattern were less lucky, their names making the casualty-list of the day. They were joined on the rail by Bertrand Grospellier, UltimateBet's Liv Boeree, Erick Lindgren and Ivan Demidov.
