WSOPE – Day 3 Report

The 3rd day of the World Series of Poker Europe was a relatively slow one in terms of volume, but it was significant nonetheless as it awarded the first bracelet of the Series. The beneficiary of the award was the winner of event #1, Tunisia’s Imed Ben Mahmoud. Besides seeing the conclusion of event #1, day 3 also saw the second day 1 flight of event #2 conclude.
Event #1 had played down to its final 8 during the previous day, so Day 3 was basically the final sprint. Yannick Bonnet was the one who started the day with the largest stack, but eventually, it was Imed Ben Mahmoud who got the better of him heads-up, taking down the first bracelet of this year’s WSOPE, together with a €150k prize.

Roberto Romanello had made the final table as well. The Italian was looking to complete his triple crown. Day 3 wasn’t his day though. He was bounced in 5th place, shortly after Sylvain Ribes bit the dust in 6th. Romanello trusted his poker tournament life to a J,10o he’d picked up. Bonnet called him with pocket Js though and since no help came on the board, Romanello was eliminated.
At the start of the heads-up action, the eventual winner was slightly behind in chips, but he eventually overcame the hurdle and managed to put the bout away on a classic coin flip of pocket Js over A,Ko.

Day 1b of event #2, the €1.1k NL Holdem one, saw 331 players belly up to the tables. More than 9 levels of action went into the day, at the end of which PokerStars’ Marvin Rettenmaier managed to clinch the chip lead. The interesting thing about Rettenmaier’s performance was that he had registered the day before too and had busted out relatively early, so he basically re-registered on Day 1B.
Dominik Nitsche, Tristan Wade and Eric Cajelais finished with healthy stacks as well. John Monnette almost made the top 10 too.
