WSOPE – Day 6 Action

Day 6 of the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe was quite eventful: two poker tournaments played down to their respective conclusions and another one got going. Event #3, the €5.3k PLO one, was set to play down to a winner on Day 6. Nine players returned to action, among them heavy –hitters like Jason Mercier and Michael Mizrachi. The final stretch of the event was no doubt going to be extremely spectacular and that’s indeed how it turned out. Mercier may not agree with that though, because he was the very first player to bite the dust on the last day of the event. He picked up €12.75k for his efforts. The player responsible for his elimination was Jussi Nevanlinna. Michael Schwartz and Michel Abecassis were eliminated next, followed to the rail by Joe Hachem. Hachem hadn’t really bothered anyone at the final table prior to his elimination. He tried a couple of moves, but nothing ever came through for him. In his final hand, he pushed all-in on a flop of J,10,6 rainbow, with 10,10,Q,4 for the set. His cause was a lost one from the start though as he was called by Wille Mattila, who had J,J,8,7 for the higher set.

The two Jussi’s, Jussi Nevanlinna and Jussi Ryynanen followed Hachem to the rail. Michael Mizrachi was still in action when the 3-handed stage of the event was reached. He was bounced by the eventual winner though, picking up €62.7k on his way out.
The heads-up stage of the event was a true slug-fest. Neither Mattila nor Hairabedian backed down, trading punches for several hours. This war of attrition eventually tilted the scales in Hairabedian’s favor, who moved in for the kill and secured the title and the €142.5k top prize.

Event #4, the €3,250 NL Holdem Shootout, played down to its heads-up stage. As Giovanni Rosadoni and Dan O’Brien tore into each other though, the organizers called it the day, tabling the final decision.

96 players bellied up to the tables of event #5, the €10,450 NL Holdem Mix-Max event. The first day of action saw the field play down to the final 52 as Jennifer Tilly clinched the chip lead. Faraz Jaka, PokerStars’ Bertrand Grospellier and Michael Mizrachi were all among the survivors as well.
