WSOPE – Event #3 Plays Down to Final 4

Although the 8th day of the 2012 WSOPE failed to award any bracelets, it hosted plenty of action in Events #5 and #6, which saw their third and second days roll by respectively.
Event #5, the €10,450 Mix Max NL Holdem one, played down to its final 4. 16 players returned to the tables at the beginning of the day, for the heads-up stage of the
poker tournament. Brandon Cantu is the one who finished the day with the largest stack. He will play Roger Hairabedian, who finished second in chips and who managed to win event #3 of the WSOPE a few days ago. Jonathan Aguiar was the 3rd survivor of the day. He will square off against Faraz Jaka.
The heads-up stage of the Mix Max event is not about equal opportunities. Players began their heads-up matches with as many chips as they had managed to accrue during the previous levels of the tournament. Thus, some match-ups started on more equal footings than others.
PokerStars’ Bertrand Grospellier and Jason Mercier for instance, started with a huge handicap, being the shortest two stacks at the beginning of Day 3.
Mercier made a valiant effort, chipping up in the beginning against Aguiar, but eventually he was forced to admit defeat when his pocket Ks took a bad beat, deserting him in the hour of need.
Phil Hellmuth and Mike Watson were at the tables at the beginning of the day too, but none of them managed to win their heads-up bouts. Paul Tedeschi, Jennifer Tilly, Joe Keuther and Vladimir Troyanovskiy were the other victims of day 3.
Brandon Cantu’s way to the final 4 led through Martin Jacobson, who did put up a bit of a fight before going under.
Jonathan Aguiar disposed of Marvin Rettenmaier to punch his ticket to the final day of action. Faraz Jaka defeated Konstantin Puchov to earn his final 4 seat.
