2010 WSOPE Event #2 - Day 2 report

49 players returned to the tables of the Empire Casino in London to battle it out past the money bubble on Day 2 of the £5,000 PLO event. Most of these players were established pros,
PokerStars and
Full Tilt representatives and regular poker news headliners. The relatively low number of day 2 starters led experts to believe day 2 would be a short and fuss-free affair, but it turned out to be anything but.
The money bubble alone took a massive four hours to burst, as obviously none of the participants were in a hurry to leave without any of the dough, in addition to which no one was plagued by bubble-jitters either.
Eventually though, something had to give and many of the high-rated participants had to go home empty handed. Such was the case of Frank Kassela, Barry Greenstein and WSOPE event #1 winner Phil Laak. Laak only had his Event #1bracelet handed over after he was bounced from the
poker tournament. Before he got sent to the rail, he’d shared tables with Chris Bjorin and Willie Tann, two players whom he’d battled at the final table of event #1 too. Laak exited in style: he got all his chips into the middle on a flush, which got bested by Danny Wong’s boat. Bjorin and Tann did much better though: they both survived and on relatively large stacks too.
The fact that the blinds were frozen on the bubble had certainly contributed to the prolonging of the hostilities. Eventually, it was John Kabbaj who got all his chips in the middle on pocket rockets. Racener was the one who made the call and proceeded to hit a flush on the river to finally break the ice.
The pace of the action didn’t pick up much after the bursting of the bubble either. In the hour that followed, only 3 more players bit the dust.
