2011 WSOP – Day 7 Report

Day 7 of the 2011 WSOP was a bit slow bracelet-wise, as only 1 player picked up the precious
WSOP bling: Matt Perrins, the winner of the $1,500 NL 2-7 Draw Lowball event. The overall action hasn’t slowed down one bit though. The first of the $1k NL Holdem events - Event #8 - rolled on, reaching the bubble and creating a massive chip leader.
Reaching the money bubble was a rather amazing feat for the field of event #8, as at the beginning of its day 2, no fewer than 623 Day 1A and day 1B survivors showed up at the tables. The quick pace of the action made sure though that the bubble would not only be reached, it would burst too: the unfortunate bubble boy was Nick Gibson. Gibson did the right thing: he picked up a pair of 9s and shoved all-in, putting his tournament life onto the line, regardless of the proximity of the money bubble. He got called by David Root, who had A,K to set up the classic coin-flip. The flop was OK for Gibson, but the K on the turn killed his hopes and the second K on the river added some insult to the injury.
The 423 players who had survived to this stage breathed a huge sigh of relief after Gibson’s departure as they knew they were all in the money.

Full Tilt Poker’s Vitaly Lunkin.
John Turner finished the day with the largest stack.
Event #10, the $1,500 NL Holdem 6-handed tournament, got going on Day 7 of the Series. The 1,920 players who showed up for action shattered last year’s attendance record, by a margin of 257. Several notables showed up to play in event #10, among them Full Tilt Poker’s Tom Dwan, ex-
PokerStars pro Greg Raymer, Maria Ho and Faraz Jaka.
Event #11, the $10k Omaha Hi/Lo Split World Championship event also got going on Monday.
