2011 WSOP - Day 9 Report

Two bracelets were won on day 9 of the 2011 WSOP, by Sean Getzwiller and Geffrey Klein, and that drew a lot of the spotlight away from the other events which kicked off or kept rolling towards their conclusions.
Event #11, the $10k Omaha Hi/Lo World Championship event saw its 3rd day kick off with 22 survivors returning to the tables. The chip leader was Viacheslav Zhukov, but there were plenty of potentially dangerous players left in the field like Guillaume Rivet, Steve Billirakis and Full Tilt Poker’s Josh Arieh.
By the day’s end, 3 players were left in contention: Billirakis made the cut, together with George Lind, whose 2.8 million chip stack gave him the still-provisional chip lead. The start of the day leader, Zhukov rounds up the top 3. He’ll start the final day as the short-stack.

Event #12, the $1,500 Triple Chance Holdem Event, has almost managed to play down to the official final table. When the action was called on Day 2 of the event, of the 156 initial registrants, 10 were still standing. Bill Chen was among the survivors, but the chip lead ended up in Nicholas Rampone’s possession.

Event #13, the $1,500 NL Holdem Shootout, saw 1,440 players cough up the buy-in, handily beating last year’s numbers. There were quite a few illustrious names in the starting field and quite a few of them made it past the first round, landing in the money. PokerStars’ Daniel Negreanu was among them, together with Bertrand Grospellier, Eric Baldwin, Greg Raymer, Eddy Sabat and Scott Montgomery. A total of 160 players survived the first day of action.

Event #13, the $3,000 Limit Holdem one, saw 337 players belly up to the tables. Some of the notables who decided to take part in the event were: Eli Elezra, Sorel Mizzi, Michael Mizrachi and Jeffrey Lisandro. Markus Herbel finished the day with the chip lead as around half the field had whittled away over before the action was called.
