2011 WSOP – Geffrey Klein Scores Bracelet in Event #10

Day 9 of the 2011 WSOP saw 2 bracelets awarded, the second of which ended up in Geffrey Klein’s possession, after he won the $1,500 NL Holdem 6-max event.
15 players returned to action on Day 3 of the tournament and Day 9 of the WSOP. Some of these guys were short-stacked, and they were bounced swiftly as the field made its way to the final table.

When the final table action kicked off, David Vamplew had the chip lead. Jeffrey Papola – who used to play at Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars a lot - was breathing down his neck though, eager to score his second ever 6-max WSOP bling. Eddie Blumenthal was the most successful player at the final table, at least until the 2-handed stage was reached. Before that, he made an excellent move by deciding to try to force the shorter-stacked Papola out on a gamble. On a flop of Kd,9h,4d, Blumenthal, who had Ad, 3d for the nut flush draw, got into a betting war with Papola. Papola had K,Q though for the top pair and the decent kicker and he wasn’t about to step aside. The two ended up getting all their chips into the middle. The 9c which fell on the turn, didn’t mean much for either party, but the 5d gave Blumenthal the nut flush and the win, sending Papola to the rail, stripped of the opportunity to fight it out heads-up for his second 6-max bracelet.

Klein had a mere fraction of the chips that graced Blumenthal’s side of the poker table when the heads-up stage kicked off. Through perseverance though and through Lady Luck’s graces, he managed to bounce back and to turn the tables on his opponent, taking a 2-1 chip lead at one point.
The last hand of the event was as classic a coin-flip as they come: Blumenthal made the move with pocket 7s, drawing a call from Klein who had A,K. the K which fell on the turn gave Klein the title.
