2011 WSOP – Jarvis and Pechie Earn Their Stripes

Day 27 of the 2011 WSOP was a truly busy one. There were two bracelets awarded: in the $5k NL Holdem Six handed event and the $1.5k Limit Holdem Shootout. The $10k PLO World Championship event played through its money bubble and it would even have burned through its final table, had it not been for the 10-level rule which interrupted its hostilities.
The $1,500 NL Holdem event and the $2.5k Razz event played through their respective money bubbles as well and the new $1k NL Holdem event kicked off, drawing yet another record-breaking starting field.
The first bracelet winner of the day was Matthew Jarvis, who returned to action together with Justin Filtz to decide the fate of event #40. This must’ve been one of the shortest final days in
WSOP history: it only lasted for 5 hands. Filtz was quick to get something going and he shoved all-in holding Kd, 9d. It was a no-brainer for Jarvis to call him with his A,8o. The board missed both hands completely, and thus Jarvis won, taking down the bracelet and the $808k prize.
Event #41 saw a tableful of players reconvene for the final day of action, among them
PokerStars’ Eugene Katchalov, Ari Engel and Jordan Rich. None of these “name” players managed to get anything significant going at the final table though. Engel was the first one to be eliminated. Katchalov fell in 4th place while Rich faded away in 5th.
Justin Pechie got going when the field played down to the final 3. Eventually, it was him against Dale Eberle in the heads-up stage of the game. Eberle began the final stretch of action with a rather significant chip disadvantage. That disadvantage would take an extreme proportion before the final hand of the event came about.
Eberle got his last two bets into the middle, holding Qh, Jh against Pechie’s K,4o. The flop fell A,K,3 and things were pretty much decided. The 5 on the turn and the 7 on the river didn’t change anything and Pechie woke up $167k richer.
