2011 WSOP Main Event – Day 1D report

While the first two day 1 flights of the 2011 WSOP Main Event were indeed rather disappointing, the last two flights, including Day 1D, delivered handsomely. There were more than 2,200 players who had registered for the event before access to the tournament hall was granted. Many more registered afterwards too though. All-in-all, despite the two disappointing Day 1 flights, the 2011 Big Dance managed to draw an impressive starting field after all, becoming the 3rd biggest Main Event in the history of the Series.
Full Tilt Poker’s Tom Dwan decided to wait till the last day 1 flight to get going. Others notable players who hit the green felt on day 1D were: Steve Zolotow, Pokerstars’ Chino Rheem, Eric Mizrachi, Joe Hachem, Mike Sexton, Bertrand Grospellier, Liv Boeree, Jennifer Harman, David Williams, Jamie Gold and scores of others. The actual number of Day 1D registrants only came out after about 3 levels of play. The eventual turn-out was 2,802 players. 693 players will be paid, and the eventual winner will pocket a $8.7 million prize. While the Main Event attendance didn’t quite break the record, the Series on the whole did. 75,672 players registered for the various side events (WSOP Main Event included too) beating last year’s record numbers by 3.7%.
No fewer than four 2010 November Nine members saw action on Day 1D. Three of them failed to advance to day 2 though. Joseph Cheong was the only one who made the cut, on a healthy stack no less.
Jason Senti, John Dolan and Matt Jarvis all bit the dust. Senti and Dolan took a couple of early hits from which they were never able to recover. Jarvis pretty much disappeared after having struggled around his starting stack for most of the day.

Maynard Little was the one who had the most chips bagged at the end of the day, as the field had whittled down to 1,874.
Freddy Deeb, Lyle Berman, Benjamin Volpe and Kevin MacPhee all advanced on healthy stacks. Jamie Gold, Huck Seed and Joe Hachem were among the survivors as well.
