2013 PCA – Side Event Action

With all the attention of the poker press and poker world focused on the PCA Main Event and its various high-rollers, a lot of interesting action, taking place in some of the side events, was simply overlooked. One of the “name” players busy behind the scenes was Marcel Luske. Luske, who first shot into the spotlight in the 2003 WSOP Main Event which Chris Moneymaker won, took down the $1.1k HORSE event. The interesting thing about the event was that Moneymaker played in it too. Back in 2003, Luske busted in 14th place for a $65k reward, while Moneymaker went all the way. This time things were the other way around: while Luske won the event, Moneymaker fell in 4th place, picking up $5.1k for his efforts. The prize-pool and the individual prizes awarded were much smaller this time around of course.
Allen Kessler made the final table as well. He finished 5th, good for a $3.6k prize. Luske took out Japan’s Naoya Kihara heads-up, who is a PokerStars pro, much like Luske himself.
Luske earned $18.5k for his win, while the share of the runner-up was $11.8k.

Another pro who won a 2013 PCA side event was John Racener. Racener’s win came in the $1,1k PLO Big O8 event, where he bested a starting field of 66 players. Allen Kessler made the final table of this event too, together with Leif Force. Force finished 5th, while Kessler made it all the way to 3rd spot, picking up an $11.6k reward. Racener bested Brazil’s Paulo Ribeiro heads-up for the win. He collected $16k for his efforts, while the runner-up was rewarded with $11.6k. Steve Tripp’s win came in the $2,150 NL Holdem Turbo event. He picked up $133k for his efforts.
