Aussie Millions Main Event – Day 2 report

A total of 746 players registered on Day 1A, B and C of the Aussie Millions’ Main Even, taking the prize-pool to a mind boggling AUD 7.46 Million. Of these players, only 294 made it to Day 2, the rest of them fell during the three Day 1flights. Pierre Aoukar started Day 2 in the chip lead, and he had a pretty good day as he managed to hang on to his large stack and to finish among the front runners. He had to give up the chip lead though, to David Frieling, who had amassed a stack of half a million chips to finish Day 2 on top.
Dan Shak followed his excellent $100k Challenge performance (he won that poker tournament) up with a very solid showing as he finished Day 2 of the Main Event second in chips. Gus Hansen, the bad-luck ridden Great Dane, finished in 3rd place, followed by Sorel Mizzi and Chad Wiedenhoeft.
When the day was called, only 85 players were still alive, the rest of them relegated to railbird status or sent packing to some other destination. The good news for the survivors is that they’ll all be there at the start of Day 3, the bad news is that though the money bubble is near, only 72 of them will get paid, so for 13 of them, Day 3 will turn extremely sour.

Team PokerStars pro was well represented in this poker tournament, and Full Tilt Poker regulars were present in reasonable numbers as well. Many of the “name” pros who had successfully made it past Day 1 had to say goodbye to the green felt on Day 2 though. Erick Lindgren was one of these players. Tony G, Party Poker’s newest in-house professional joined him on the rail, as did Leo Margets, Dan Harrington, Mark Vos, James Akenhead and Joe Hachem.

Notable players who survived to do battle on Day 3 were Annette Obrestad, JP Kelly, Barry Greenstein, Van Marcus, Andrew Feldman and Steve Topakas. Besides the Main Event, the Australian Heads-up Poker Championship and the Team Event were also in full swing today.
The Heads-up Poker Championship worked its way through Day 1B, and saw 8 players survive, among them Andrew Lichtenberger and Barry Woods.
