EPT London Main Event – Day 1A Report

This season, the Main Event of the
EPT’s London stop was moved to a new venue to accommodate more participants, and indeed, the first day 1 flight of the poker tournament saw 209 players belly up to the tables, not a bad yield considering that organizers weren’t really expecting a large crowd due to all the
online poker action taking place on Sunday anyway. Going even further, the officials guaranteed everyone playing on Day 1A seating at a 9-handed table. That guarantee would of course not be extended to cover Day 1B too, when more players are expected to show up.
A total of 105 players made it through the first hurdle of the Main Event, and the player to finish with the largest stack was Dhru Patel, who had 241k chips bagged. Patel has had –without the shadow of a doubt – a truly outstanding day: not only did he end up with the largest stack at the end of it, he punctuated his green felt dominance with the elimination of Erik Seidel. Patel was the first player to push his stack over the 100k mark and he never looked back. To add the cherry to the top of the cake, he bounced Ben Martin at the end of the day, his pocket Qs holding up against the latter’s A,Qo.
Another player who did well was David Yan: he finished with a more than healthy stack of 182.2k chips.
Full Tilt Poker pro Viktor Blom played on Day 1A too: he got off to a slow start, but he seemed to be gathering momentum before he was suddenly and irrevocably sent to the rail by Dan Smith.
PokerStars pros Johnny Lodden, Eugene Katchalov and Jonathan Duhamel were also among the victims.
