EPT Loutraki – Day 4 Report

38 players returned on the 4th day of the PokerStars EPT’s Loutraki Main Event to play down to the final table. By the end of the day, 30 of them were on the rail, leaving only the official 8-handed final table in action. Zimnan Ziyard was the player who finished the day with the largest stack, taking the pole position going into the final stretch of the event.
The day began with all the short-stacks looking to chip up or bust, and bust indeed they did: during the first 75 minutes of the day, no fewer than 13 players headed to the rail. There were quite a few ‘name’ players among the early Day 4 casualties. Jude Ainsworth was one of them, together with Day 1A chip leader Julian Herold.

Charalampos Kapernopoulos was the start of the day chip leader. He continued his hot run during the first level on day 4.
During the second level of the day, Toni Judet’s tournament life came to an end. When Judet busted out, Kapernopoulos was still in the lead, but that would soon change. The Greek dropped a few massive pots to Hauke Heseding and Ioannis Taramas. Heseding took so many chips off Kapernopoulos, that for a brief while, he took over the leader’s spot.

Rupert Elder and Zimnan Ziyard played well all through the day and they were both close to the chip leader’s position. Then suddenly, they locked horns and Elder paid dearly for the mistake of not doing his best to avoid a fellow large-stack. Elder put his entire stack onto the line holding K,Jo and Ziyard made the call with pocket Qs. The pot he took down there, propelled Ziyard past Heseding into the lead.
Ziyard never looked back from that point on as all his opponents grew into tiny dots in his rearview mirror. Andras Kovacs will begin the final table as the official short-stack.
