Full Tilt and PokerStars weekend GTDs draw huge crowds

Despite the lull in player numbers that the year’s end usually brings about, the biggest online poker rooms, Full Tilt Poker and PokerStars have had great weekends to look back on. They both surpassed their weekly $1 million guarantees, as not even the $500+$35 buy-in required to register for Full Tilt Poker’s tournament deterred players from showing up in droves. At Full Tilt, the first prize, which was more than $200,000, went to Steven Burkholder who played under the alias “UFman2”.

PokerStars’ $1 million guarantee beat the attendance record by drawing no fewer than 8,015 entrants. This gave birth to a prize-pool of $1,603,000, quite unheard of even at PokerStars. Some of the name pros who finished high up on the leader board were: Stephen Chidwick, who ended up 68th, Dane Miller, who finished 50th, Marten Jensen (11th), and Jeff Hakim (10th) falling just short of the final table.

The final table action saw mezyoureyez exit first, eliminated by Vuki, when he shoved all-in on 9,9 against Vuki’s 6s,7s. The board yielded three spades to crack the better hand and to send mezyoureyez packing in possession of a $11,221 prize.
The next player to exit, tAAggart did it on a similar better hand cracked” situation. He shoved all-in on A,A against DFGBOYS’ 10,10, only to see another 10 land on the flop, and no ace on the turn or river to bail him out.

Apparently all those who staked their tournament lives on the better hand bought it hard from the board at the final table. Gladik lost an A,Q vs A,J match-up next, against phil steve who hit a flush on the river.

Player “dstrung” exited next at the hands of DFGBOYS who maintained the lead his A,9 gave him over his opponent’s J,10. DFGBOYS’ luck would run out though a few hands later when he committed on his 8,8 against phil steve’s As,5s who went on to make a flush on the river.

The four remaining players struck a deal and set $30,000 aside for the winner before the game continued. Player “Vuki” busted out 4th, followed by phil steve in third. The heads-up battle between KopplarJocke and Crazylarry43 was decided in favor of the former, which meant a $130,723 for him (due to the deal that he had made).
