Full Tilt Poker’s newest pro: Sam Chauhan

With the balance of power slowly shifting in favor of PokerStars in the battle of the biggest online poker rooms, Full Tilt poker has scored a home run last Thursday, by hiring Sam Chauhan as their newest representative. As one of the best known and most successful mindset coaches out there, Chauhan has worked with several celebrities, professional athletes and CEOs, helping them find new motivation and focus in their careers. Among his clients, there were several poker players as well. He helped Gavin Smith and David Williams rebound, and he’s also worked with Phil Hellmuth as well as Mike “the Mouth” Matusow.
When asked about the purpose of his jumping onto Full Tilt’s bandwagon, Chauhan said that his primary goal would be the creation of a mindset program for the Full Tilt Academy. He also said he was not going to be a full-fledged Full Tilt pro and although he would play poker every now and then too, he would be a “Friend of Full Tilt Poker” rather than an in-house professional.

Given the highly psychological nature of the game of poker, his mindset coaching would aim to help players overcome downswings and other psychological lows encountered at the green felt. Mathematical poker skills can only be improved to a certain point, whereas when two equally skilled players lock horns at the table, psychology becomes a tie-breaker. He with the better mindset will always triumph. Those of you who tend to underestimate the importance of proper mindset when playing the game may want to know that according to Chauhan, even a tiny change for the better in mindset will lead to radical changes in a player’s poker performance. At the level at which guys like Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan and Antonio Esfandiari play, mindset is pretty much the only area where improvements can be attained.
