It's Official: PokerStars are World Champions, Again!

Full Tilt Poker thought that they could knock PokerStars off the title, but it's Guinness Book of Records official: PokerStars is the biggest!

In Las Vegas gaming revenues suffered another loss in September, indicative of a trend representing the current financial climate, however, online giants PokerStars are suffering no such fate, and in fact September saw PokerStars break another world record – all be it their own!

As we reported last month, September saw a clash of the titans when Full Tilt Poker attempted to wrest from the hands of PokerStars the record for hosting the most online players. The results of that battle are now official as PokerStars prepares to be written into the Guinness Book of Records, retaining the title, but doing so with an extra 100,000 players over their original figure.

September was a huge month for PokerStars with the WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker) which by all accounts was a credit to all involved, and a huge success. The day that was to break the mile stone for PokerStars, and to be the downfall of Full Tilt Poker in this one respect, took place on September 6th. On that fateful day an enormous 307,016 players graced approximately 42,814 tables at the online poker site.

This wasn't the first time that Full Tilt Poker had challenged PokerStars, and in fact only in July Full Tilt Poker attempted to become host to the biggest ever online poker tournament. Despite high hopes for Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars foiled their plan on that occasion also, attracting 15% more to their tournament than Full Tilt Poker managed.

The name PokerStars has become associated with a number of Guinness Book of Records titles including that of PokerStars Pro Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier who became a record breaker when he played 62 online tables in one hour in April of this year.

with all due respect - that's hardly surprising is it. I mean seriously, did anyone ever really doubt PokerStars?

now now greentips, Full Tilt Poker gave PokerStars a really good run for their money - my bet is that next time, they'll get them.

I don't disagree- PokerStars know how to deliver; all i'm saying is that no-one stays at the top forever, not even our friends at PokerStars.
