Looking back at the UBOC 6

Last Sunday, the 6th edition of Ultimate Bet’s response to various online poker championships held by
PokerStars and
Full Tilt Poker, the UBOC, wrapped up. Having awarded $5,139,125 over 28 events, the UBOC attracted large starting fields and many “name” players. Some of these guys did better than others, some of them cashed in many events, others shot to the top in crunch-time: here’s a list of some of the best UBOC 6 accomplishments.
The absolute champion and quite probably the best player of the Series was Thiago Nishijima, and we’re not just saying that because he won the Main Event, although that too is part of the equation. Nishijima cashed in no fewer than 5 events, made two final tables and – you’ve guessed it – he won the Main Event too.
Nishijima’s first final table came in event #6, where he eventually ended up in 4th place for a meager $4.9k. We’re only saying that his other UBOC 6 cashes were small, because the $231,339 he took down for his Main Event win, pretty much dwarfed everything else.
The best in-house
UB Poker pro was Brandon Cantu. While his performance was eclipsed by Nishijima’s overall, he did pretty well too, making a final table and cashing in no fewer than 4 events. His final table came in event #18, where he eventually finished 4th for a $12k+ haul. He did well in the Main Event too and nearly made the final table, but eventually faded away in 12th place.
Another UB pro who did extremely well was Bryan Devonshire.
The best female player was beyond doubt Vanessa Peng. She made two final tables and she finished in the money to make the top of the list. Her best performance came in event #10, where she finished 3rd for a $25k haul. She was eliminated after her pocket 10s lost a coin-flip against an opponent’s A,J.
