Online Poker Action – Antonius Winning Big

As the post Black Friday situation is slowly but surely being sorted out, poker news headlines are also re-conquered by actual news about who won where and how much. Last week was an excellent week for high stakes online poker action. All the non-US resident “name” players saw action, among them Patrik Antonius, NoPasaran, XWINK, Viktor Blom and Gus Hansen.
While Blom managed to amass some profits over at
PokerStars, by far the biggest winner of the week was Patrik Antonius, who played around 2,7k hands at Full Tilt Poker, walking away with a $1.16 million profit. Blom “only” took home about $189k of his opponents’ monies.
Most of Antonius’ profits came from Rui Cao, whom the Finn played at the $500/$1,000 PLO tables at
Full Tilt Poker. The two played 1,404 heads-up hands, during which Antonius relieved his opponent of $792k.
The match-up began with Antonius building up a massive lead from the get go. He kept the pedal to the metal all through, never looking back and never giving his opponent even the slightest opportunity to rebound.
One of the biggest pots of the confrontation was a $292k monster, which – needless to say – ended up in Antonius’ pockets.
The hand began with the usual preflop tussle, after which the Q,5,2 rainbow fell. Antonius pushed all-in almost instantly and Cao was uninspired enough to make the call. Antonius had pocket rockets and even though the turn and the river were run twice, Cao never managed to catch up.
Antonius’ mad profits carried special significance in light of the fact that they pushed the Finn onto the top of the 2011 winners’ list, ahead of Gus Hansen.
The other winner of the past week was Viktor Blom. The Swede played against Gavin Cochrane and adiprene1 at the $25/$50 PLO tables at PokerStars, walking away with some handsome profits. He also took money from Ben Sulsky a day later. LFmagic and NoPasaran also joined last week’s winners, while XWINK and Gus Hansen both dropped money.
