Online poker action – Phil Ivey wins big

The FTOPS must’ve had an adverse effect on nosebleed stakes cash games over the weekend, as they proved to be much lighter than usual, despite the fact that most of the regular were playing nonetheless. The fact however that – since Friday – only 4 pots managed to hit the 6-figure mark, was a rather telltale sign of slowdown.
Scott Palmer and Ilari Sahamies played over at
PokerStars, together with now in-house pro Viktor Blom. Phil Ivey locked horns with kagome kagome at
Full Tilt Poker. The biggest winner of the first half of the week was Ivey, thanks to the $500k he took off kagome kagome at the $3,000/$6,000 Limit Holdem tables of all things. It is not often that Limit Holdem is responsible for the biggest winner of the week, but this time that was exactly the case, quite probably because of the shallow overall nature of this week’s action.
Ivey took down a couple of $60k pots. For the first one, he pushed pocket Js on a board of K,K,7,3A, to force his opponent to muck his hand at the end of it all. The second such pot ended up in his possession after he flopped a set of 10s on an A-high board.
Viktor Blom took on Sahamies and Palmer in heads-up games at PokerStars. The scenes of both heads-up confrontations were the $25/$50 PLO tables, where Isildur1 had to beat off 6-figure pots with a stick. He took down a $140k whooper from Palmer after his pocket Aces held up against his opponent’s top pair. He did give a similarly sized monster back though, when his top two pair fell to Palmer’s straight.
The biggest pot of the Blom-Sahamies match-up was a $101k monster, which ended up on the Swede’s side of the table, after his pocket rockets survived Sahamies’ top pair.
Matt Hawrilenko and Daniel Cates made the winners’ list too.
