Online Poker Action – PokerStars Heats Up

The volume of online poker action hasn’t been particularly impressive lately. The Black Friday events have certainly put the brakes on the scene, and the fact that the
WSOP is in full swing, isn’t helping the nosebleed stakes scene a whole lot either. Last week, there was some pretty decent amount of action and the interesting thing was that the focus of high stakes action seemed to have moved from Full Tilt to
PokerStars.
The highlight of last week’s online action was the return of Isildur1’s SuperStar Showdown. The Showdown had pretty much gone off the radar in the wake of Black Friday, so its resurfacing carried added significance now.
Ben Sulsky was the biggest online winner of the week, as he put in no fewer than 45 sessions at PokerStars, at the end of which, he walked away with a $265k profit. The biggest loser of the week played at
Full Tilt Poker. A player known as IReadYrSoul dropped more than $200k, having played 62 sessions.
The latest round of the SuperStar Showdown took place on Jun 19. Viktor Blom squared off against Rui Cao this time, looking to improve his already quite impressive SuperStar Showdown record.
The bout turned into a bona-fide massacre: Blom took his opponent’s entire stack ($150k) in only 2,257 hands.
The confrontation took place at 2 tables, each featuring $50/$100 blinds. The largest pot of the bout materialized at a PLO table. Isildur1 took control of the action before the flop, four-betting to $2.7k.
The flop fell 8c,7c,5s, and Cao decided to fire out a bet of $3,500. Blom made the call and the Qs fell on the turn. Still looking to assert control, Cao bet $12,400 and Blom raised it to $49,600. Cao shoved all he had into the middle and tabled Ac,10c,Qd,9h for the flush draw. Blom showed Kc,Jh,9c,6h for a flush draw of his own, but more importantly, for the flopped nut straight. The 7d on the river missed Cao’s flush and the $67.7k pot ended up in Blom’s pockets.
