PokerStars EPT Vienna – Day 2 report

The two day 1 flights of the
EPT Vienna stop took care of more than half the initial starting field. Thus, of the 578 initial starters, only 278 got back to the green felt to further approach the money bubble and eventually the top spot.
Online player Laurence Houghton was the one who started day 2 of the poker tournament with the largest stack of chips. When the action was called, only 80 players were still alive, and
PokerStars’ own Daniel Negreanu held the provisional chip lead.
Houghton may have been in control at the start of the day, but he got hit by bad luck and he just couldn’t keep the pace up after that. He first picked up a couple of 10s and ran them into an opponent’s pocket rockets. He continued by picking up pocket Js and running them into pocket Aces again. After all these bad hits, he never managed to recover and he eventually busted out, not even having reached the money.
At one point during Day 2, it looked as though Tom Dwan would have a field-day but the
Full Tilt pro once again disappointed. He began by arriving late on Day1b. He still managed to survive though to begin Day 2 with a 60k stack. During the early going, he managed to build that stack up to 160k but then proceeded to drop most of it on two coin-flips that backfired.
He eventually shoved all-in, holding A,2o and was called by Stavros Kalfas, who had A,Jo.
Gianni Giaroni became the bubble-boy of the event when his A,K fell to Riekus Wijermars’ pocket rockets.
Daniel Negreanu wasn’t among the top stacks at the beginning of the day, but he took full advantage of a perfect hand situation when he picked up pocket rockets against another player’s pocket Ks.
The 80 remaining players are all guaranteed a minimum payout of €8k.
