The online poker weekend – Dan Smyth wins big

The fact that the WSOP just kicked off in Las Vegas this weekend certainly put a mark on the intensity of the online poker action over the weekend. Though on the surface it seemed like business as usual, it was obvious that the high prize-pool guaranteed poker tournaments, the true barometers of the online poker industry, failed to generate as much interest as they usually do. PokerStars’ Sunday Million for instance only attracted 7,214 registrants, failing to cover the guarantee for the first time in quite a long while. The prize-pool thus stayed at $1.5 million, still well enough to give Dan Smyth, the eventual winner, a $215,555 top prize. He could probably have taken home more, had it not been for a 2 way deal at the top between him and airic1400, which allowed the latter to take down $175k.
Another 6 figure winner in the poker tournament was KKruchitAAs, who took home $120k.
Notables to finish high in the event were Mike Leah and Derek Lerner, who finished 26th and 44th respectively.

The Sunday Warm-up felt the effects of the ongoing WSOP too. 4,029 players showed up for this tournament, few by the usual standards. The prize-pool was a $805,800 one. Thanks to a 2 way deal at the top, this event generated 2 6-figure winners as well. Boruzze won the tournament for a $110k prize. Ryan Hall finished second for slightly more.
Jeremy Menard ended up 8th place eventually, taking home $10k for his efforts.

The Sunday 500 saw only 845 participants. The starting field combined for a $500k prize-pool (failed to cover the guarantee) and there were no 6-figure winners in this one. AltyAA ended up with the win, which was worth $90k this time.
Full Tilt Poker’s $750k Guarantee failed to cover its target prize-pool too. Full Tilt had to round the sum up to 750k as the action got underway. There were no deals in this poker tournament. Player “mrfsy” won, taking home $132,787 and becoming the only 6-figure winner of the weekend at a poker room other than PokerStars. Justin Shelton finished second for $80k. Notable finishes were those of Darrell Dicken (4th) and Timothy Adams (9th).

Ultimate Bet’s $200k attracted only 802 players. DELIVERNCHIT walked away with the top prize in this one, taking down $45,700. Mike Sowers finished in 15th for a $1,720 reward.
