The online poker weekend – guarantees go uncovered again

I’m really beginning to believe that the online poker industry hates the WSOP. For the 3rd straight weekend, major online poker guarantees all over cyberspace failed to hit their guarantees, on account of the largest poker festival of the year. The number of players able to take home 6-figure hauls seems to be dropping every week too. This past weekend, only 4 players pocketed such prizes, and 3 of them picked up the dough in PokerStars’ Sunday Million.
EPT Grand Final champion, Nicholas Chouity also won a poker tournament, although his haul was far off the 6-figure mark: he only picked up $35k.

The flagship of all online poker weekend guarantees, PokerStars’ Sunday Million had only 7,309 players cough up the $200+$15 buy-in, not enough to cover the guarantee. The prize-pool was a $1.5 million one.
The two players to reach the top struck a deal, at the end of which redsfan9 emerged victorious, pocketing $214,804. Runner-up was kiaser, picking up $175,750. Third place finisher tytkto was a 6-figure winner too: he took down a $120k prize. A notable finish in this poker tournament was that of Wade Woelfel, who finished 16th for a $4,200 prize.

The Sunday Warm-Up failed to cover its guarantee too. 3,674 players showed up for this event, and the prize-pool was covered by PokerStars to the extent of $750k.
This tournament saw a 3-way deal at the top, which prevented another 6-figure prize. The eventual winner, hithenose, fell just short of the mark at $90,559. TommyGunn34 finished 2nd for $89,278, and Paul Dewald ended up in 3rd, for a $87,536 reward.

The Sunday 500 proved even less successful in attracting registrants. Only 969 players registered for this event. The eventual winner, yoshi-jp won $87,400.
The event in which Chouity scored first place was the $100+$9 NL Holdem with Re-buys event, which featured 498 entrants and a prize-pool of $188,100. Chouity pocketed $35,739 for his first place. He defeated Dave Sands heads-up for the win. Sands had a $26,334 payday.

Full Tilt Poker’s 750k Gtd was another one of the major weekend guarantees in which the poker room had to reach into its pockets to round up the prize-pool. SEDOS won this event, becoming the 4th 6-figure winner of the weekend, with a haul of $132,787.
