On Monday, the first major
online poker industry announcement of 2013 came from Betfair. According to the said announcement, Betfair will leave the Ongame Poker network and move to iPoker in a two-step process, which will see the site exist on both online poker networks for a while.
Later this month, Betfair will launch on the iPoker network, while continuing to reside on the Ongame network too. The dual-network experiment of the site will end in July 2013, when all Betfair players will be transferred to the iPoker network.
According to iPoker network representatives, Betfair’s move is a welcome one. As the network sees continuously increasing player liquidity and as it introduces technological improvements, bigger and bigger operators are drawn to it, which is a sure measure of success.
A two-tiered network, iPoker will probably include Betfair among its top-tier operators like William Hill, Everest Poker, Poker770 and Paddy Power.
According to Betfair’s Sam Hobcraft, his side is looking forward to moving to iPoker’s world class online poker platform. The move is viewed as a necessary one by Betfair officials, who aim to retain their existing players while looking for greener pastures for growth.
In other news: Jake Cody is
PokerStars’ newest in-house pro. The announcement was made at the
2013 PCA, where Daniel Negreanu introduced Cody before the start of the second day 1 flight of the Main Event. Cody was obviously pleased with the developments. In a statement, he said that Team PokerStars pro represented the sponsorship dream of every poker player out there. He also said it had always been his personal goal to become a PokerStars sponsored player.
Cody has won more than $3 million in live tournaments in his career. He has scored
WSOP, WPT and
