The poker grapevine: Peter Eastgate heads to the sidelines

In a rather surprising turn of events, Peter Eastgate, PokerStars pro, has announced the other day that he was retiring from poker indefinitely. Such announcements are relatively common in the poker world: Saun Deeb was one of the players who had announced his retirement, only to return to the tables almost immediately. Gus Hansen, the Great Dane, plagued by huge losses has also said he was quitting a while ago. Mike McDonald is among the “quitters” too, but he doesn’t quite seem to be able to stay away from the green felt either.
While all these players are more than well known in poker circles, none of them is a
WSOP Main Event Champion like Eastgate, so in that respect, the Dane’s decision did indeed come as a surprise to most specialists.
Eastgate has declared that it had never been his plan to spend the rest of his life playing poker. He could sure have fooled us the way he was making deep runs and final tables all over the world in the last 20 months.
Upon making his announcement, Eastgate pointed it out that he lost all motivation to play the game and that he enjoyed the support of his family and of
PokerStars in the decision he’d made.
