The Poker Grapevine – PokerStars Pro Arrested, New ISPT Details

Two Argentine PokerStars pros were arrested for allegedly cheating at the craps tables at The Wynn in Las Vegas. Leo Fernandez and Veronica Dabul have apparently put in quite some time at the craps tables at The Wynn, using a technique known as dice-sliding to win around $700k. The Wynn hopes to be able to recover the money.
The two players were apparently members of a larger team. Together with the other perpetrators, they have placed bets, and distracted the dealers, thus increasing the chances of their dice-sliding going unnoticed. The Wynn produced surveillance tapes which allegedly show Fernandez sliding the dice several times without actually placing a bet.

In other news: a few days ago, we let you know about the ISPT (International Stadiums Poker Tour), an event in which the Groupe Bernard Tapie, the same entity interested in purchasing Full Tilt Poker, was apparently also involved. We could serve you few details back then, but now new news-morsels have emerged regarding the ISPT.
The organizers are apparently serious about the event indeed. According to their website, the ISPT will feature a single event each year, the first of which will be held at the Wembley Stadium. The event is set to kick off between August 15 and October 9, depending on when the Stadium is freed up.
The planned format of the tournament has been made public too: 30,000 players will play in the stands, through an electronic pad made available for every seat. A shootout format will be used for the preliminaries. Those who make the cut will then move on to the lawn where the live poker action will begin. Play will continue tournament-style until a winner is crowned. The winner will pick up a top prize of $10 million. The guaranteed prize-pool for the event is planned to be $30 million.

While the information is still a little vague, at least it’s an indication that the ISPT is more than just wishful thinking on the part of some industry executives.
