Hardly have the ripples of the
WSOP settled, poker players – especially online poker players – already have something else to look forward to. The 2011 PokerStars WCOOP’s schedule has been released, and it looks like there’s plenty of dough up for grabs again. The series kicks off on September 4 and it runs through September 25. There will be no fewer than 62 events on the schedule, each of them offering a guaranteed prize-pool. The total will be a mind-blowing $30 million.
The Main Event alone will give away $5 million in guaranteed prizes, which means that the winner will take home at least a cool million.
The events cover a wide range of buy-ins. Those who know that it takes money to make money and who have large enough bankrolls, will be able to play in some of the high roller events which feature buy-ins of $1,000 + $300. Those of more meager means can still play, as the cheapest events only cost $109 to enter.
PokerStars’ pros are already excited about the possibilities the WCOOP will open up. Bertrand Grospellier was more than excited about the series in an interview. Daniel Negreanu, the Canadian pro who had taken up residence in the US, moved back to Canada just to be able to legally play in the WCOOP.
The start times of the various WCOOP events will be scheduled so that players from various areas of the globe will be able to take part in them.
In other news: the Alderney Gambling Control Commission has released a statement regarding the hearing it held concerning
Full Tilt Poker’s license. In the statement, the AGCC justified its decision stating that it was taken with the players’ best interests in mind. The move would give Full Tilt Poker time to find an investor which would enable it to return all pending player monies. A new hearing regarding the issue will take place no later than September 15.
