In December 2007, an event which later proved to be of exceptional significance for European online poker took place: Titan Poker hosted the first ever ECOOP, the European Championship of Online Poker. The ECOOP was a series of tournaments modeled after the WSOP, where players could compete in various events for a total prize-pool of $2.5 million. The resounding success of the first ECOOP spurred Titan to revive the series in 2008. That time, the total prize-pool had grown to $3.5 million and it became obvious there was turning back. The ECOOP III extended the series to 14 days and increased the total prize-pool to $4.1 million. The 4th edition of the series saw a further prize-pool increase (to $4.5 million) and the 5th edition, which is set to kick off on November 23rd is set to be at least as rich too. The series will once again be spread over 14 days of high stakes, hard hitting, merciless online poker action, and it will be comprised of 14 events, the biggest one of which shall be the December 6 NL Holdem event which will practically be the Main Event of the ECOOP. The guaranteed prize-pool is a whooping $1.5 million in this one, and it will feature a buy-in of $1,500+$80. That may be a little steep, but Titan Poker wouldn’t be Titan Poker if it didn’t allow its players to win their seat to the event for much less in one of the direct access satellites and the various sub-satellites that come with them.
Though a WSOP like atmosphere is practically guaranteed, the buy-ins will be much smaller and affordable. Take the NL Holdem Turbo event of Day 3: for a buy-in of just $100+$9, players will compete for a guaranteed prize-pool of $350,000 (which is likely to be exceeded).
